About the DPRG

History

The Deutsche Public Relations Gesellschaft e.V. (DPRG) has been founded on 8 December 1958 in Cologne as the professional association for Public Relations experts in Germany. Amongst the founding members was Prof. Dr. Albert Oeckl. Since that day, the DPRG informs and supports its members in all questions relevant to the profession. Also, membership has a binding force for members to adhere to codes of conduct and to practice the job in a professional and ethical way. According to its status, the DPRG aims at improving the image, public perception of and knowledge about the profession.

Ensuring quality

A major effort in this area is the development of own guidelines for the profession. DPRG members are bound both to the „Code d’Athènes“ and the „Code de Lisbonne“. Since 1970, outstanding PR-achievements in Germany are rewarded with the prestigious German PR Award „Deutschen PR-Preis (Goldene Brücke)“. Also, for internal communications, there is the “inkom. Grand Prix”, a dedicated award scheme for employee magazines and -publications. Contrary to highlighting positive examples, the association has founded the German counsel for Public Relations „Deutsche Rat für Public Relations (DRPR)“, a self-controlling organ to rebuke wrongdoings and incorrect behaviour.

Supporting young professionals

Based on the work and experience derived from sectoral groups, curricula, educational profiles and job specifications have been developed. Those ensure standards for the education of young professionals. In order to support the younger scientific society, the DPRG introduced the „Albert Oeckl-Preis“ in 1985, a bi-annual award for outstanding scientific work on the profession.

Foster information exchange

The DPRG supports networking and information sharing on regional, national and international level. In addition to the annual national PR conference „Deutschen PR-Tag“, there are a series of other events organised by the various regional and sectoral groups. With a view to international collaboration, DPRG holds contacts with other associations in the communications sphere, e.g. as a member of the European PR umbrella body „Confédération Européenne des Rélations Publiques (CERP)“, which is the European wing of the “Global Alliance for Public Relation and Communication Management”, a global professional organisation, the „International Public Relations Association (IPRA)“, and the Féderation of European Industrial Editors Associations (FEIA).
